Straw pellet boiler

In 2012 Simon Jones, from Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese, contacted us with the vision to install a straw pellet boiler to replace the existing steam heating system at their Ulceby Grange Farm and dairy.

We designed a heating system that included a 12,000 litre accumulator tank and interconnecting pipe work to the various site locations that required heat. The temperature control of the cheese vat is vital to the quality of the finished product, “The Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese”. This demanded specialist equipment, which we tailored to suit the precise parameters of the cheese-making process and so our design met the specific requirements of the project.

The new system was successfully integrated into the existing steam heating system to allow continued cheese production during any future maintenance work. All work was completed on target during the annual two weeks dairy shutdown. Further minor alterations have resulted in continued improved performance with no disruption to production.

This new system…

• Saves 20,000 litres of heating oil annually
• Significantly reduces costs
• Significantly reduces carbon emissions
• Resulted in RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) payments that last twenty years
• Reduced levels of condensation in the dairy

“To make cheese I heat 5000 litres of milk each day using steam generated in an oil boiler. I decided to have Peter install a straw pellet boiler as my farm produces plenty of straw. The project included connecting my house, swimming pool and holiday let. Peter organised the conversion of the cheese vat, and also completed the RHI application for us!”

Blacker Hall Farm

200kw ETA wood chip boiler

Blacker Hall Farm Shop is an award-winning restaurant and shop situated near Wakefield.

Being very busy all year round meant the business had some substantial heat requirements, and an old incinerator was no longer in use so they were 100% dependent on gas heating.

After a business associate mentioned that he was having a wood pellet boiler installed by us, he advised Blacker Hall to ask us to install a biomass heating system too.

This new system…

• Saves £20,000 of gas annually
• Significantly reduces costs
• Significantly reduces carbon emissions
• Resulted in RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) payments that last twenty years

“Peter recommended and installed a 200kw ETA wood chip boiler utilising the original infrastructure (including existing buildings, accumulator vessel, heat exchangers, pumps, underground heat mains, pipe work and standby boiler). It has proved a very reliable system and having the boiler connected to the Internet means Peter can make any necessary adjustments without having to journey to visit the site (except for annual servicing).”

The New Inn

Froling 80kW wood pellet boiler

In 2014 the New Inn underwent a complete refurbishment. The project included the addition of ten new boutique guest rooms and a top quality bar and restaurant.

As the old oil system was at the end of its life, taking up valuable space in the restaurant area, a remote boiler room was designed and located in the old garage.

A Froling 80kW wood pellet boiler was chosen to provide eco-friendly heating in keeping with the owner’s policy to use renewable energy wherever possible. Underground factory-insulated piping was installed to carry the heat from the boiler house to the site.

This new system…

• Completely replaces oil dependency
• Significantly reduces costs
• Significantly reduces carbon emissions
• Resulted in RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) payments that last twenty years

“This is the eighth boiler Peter has installed for the projects I’ve been involved in. He has always completed the installations in a timely manner, never gone over budget and always met RHI requirements. We have no hesitation in following his recommendations and advice.”

Grimsby Bungalow

Froling 15kW SP combined log and pellet boiler

In 2014 we installed a Froling 15kW SP combined log and pellet boiler within this four bedroom, period bungalow.

Logs are required to be loaded once a day for sufficient heat during the winter months and less at warmer times of the year. When the owner is not around or this is not achievable, the boiler will automatically change over to using pellets.

This gives the advantage of being able to use the cheapest form of wood fuel for the majority of the time, whilst removing the burden of constantly needing to load logs. Essentially, the boiler will look after itself whilst burning wood pellets.

This new system…

• Saves £1,000 in gas annually
• Significantly reduces costs
• Significantly reduces carbon emissions
• Resulted in RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) payments for the last seven years – a total of £25,000

“The new boiler has been very effective in keeping us warm this winter. It is very easy to light and very economical. To be able to use pellets provides peace of mind if we go away or aren’t well enough to load the logs into the boiler.”
